Teddy Bear's Mother Goose
Published in School & Library Binding by Henry Holt & Company, Inc. (April, 2001)
Author: Michael Hague

SURE TO BE A FAVORITE!
Los Angeles born artist Michael Hague has won the hearts of countless children and parents with his warm, fanciful illustrations of such popular books for young readers as "The Wind In The Willows," "The Velveteen Rabbit," and "The Secret Garden."

Crediting much of his early inspiration to Disney characters, Mr. Hague has said he decided to become an artist after watching the Mickey Mouse Club on television. It is true that one finds vivacity in the paintings of both artists, but Mr. Hague remains very much an original as is seen in the delightful "Teddy Bears' Mother Goose."

Beginning with the kindly, plump Mother Goose bear in bonnet and nose specs, we meet the old bear who lives in a shoe with "so many cubs she didn't know what to do." Peter pumpkins eater's wife waves contentedly from her pumpkin shell, and Little Bear Blue, with mouth fallen open, snoozes in the haystack.

The height of comic art is reached with a pathetically slim Jack Sprat bear and his overfed wife. It's impossible to choose a favorite among these traditional rhymes sparkling with uniquely lovable illustrations, which simply means that this is a book that will be enjoyed over and over again

Great book for an early reader!
My 5 year old daughter recently read this book to me. She loved hearing the story of Teddy's adventures, and this book has inspired us to start a scrapbook of her adventures with her special toy animal friend. The last chapter is wonderful as it describes the bond of friendship between the bear and the little girl who loved him.

My granddaughter enjoyed this book so much, that we have it out more than the Library has it in stock. One of the librairians is a neighbor and we had been to the library that day and we searched high and low for this book, to no avail. That evening the neighbor came with book in hand, and my 2 1/2yr old granddaughter was so excited to get her book back, she claims. She can't read but knows it by heart.

Every teddy bear...past or present....needs a home!
Linda Mullins identification book is a must for the teddy bear collector. I have followed Mullins' teddy bear shows in So. California for almost 20 years and this book captures the knowledge and experience of Mullins. This book offers comprehensive information that not only clearly identifies past collectible teddy bears but provides bear "seekers" valuable information on the newer bears the collector should be watching. Thanks Linda Mullins for such a fine book!

Mark Burgess Scores With "Teddy Bears' Picnic"
Affectionate, colorful illustrations accompany this sweet tale of a group of teddy bears preparing for a picnic, traveling to their party site, and returning home at the end of the day. Each page includes a before and after segment of the story via a fold-out section that includes poems and song lyrics. This feature invites parent child interaction and engages the attention spans of pre-schoolers. Teddy bears are always popular characters and Burgess' are no exception. Each picture shows them cheerfully involved in group activities, cooperating with one another throughout their eventful day. Present on every page, two small yellow birds observing it all.

A cute look at our little furry friends
A wonderful book for those (like me) that believe that fuzzy critters are not merely fabric and polyester fiberfill or beans. They are friends, dependable and true. Their lives are just as rich as ours, even if we only see them in their semi-static state (alliteration not intended).

This is truly a wonderful gift book to any lover of friendly critters.
